All four hooves are off the floor, and she could not be happier. This unicorn birthday coloring page catches a unicorn in mid jump at her own party, with a party hat on her head and her mouth open in a big smile. A two tier cake with five candles waits on a table, and four balloons float around her.

It is a fun one for ages 4 to 10. Some shapes are big, and the confetti gives quick little wins. Plan on 25 to 35 minutes. Party tables will get through it faster.

Everything at this party

A string of flags runs across the top of the page, and the wall behind has a pattern of small stars and dots. Confetti pieces and round sprinkles float in the air. On the left, two balloons are tied to the bow of a gift. On the right, two more balloons are tied to the table.

The cake has a wavy frosting edge on each tier and a row of dots around the bottom. Three gifts sit on the tiled floor, from big to small. Her tail streams up behind her, and her back legs kick out as she jumps.

Unicorn birthday coloring page color ideas

Party scenes can take every color in the box, and that is half the fun. Try this order to keep it from looking messy. Pick a soft wall color first, like pale pink, then use bright colors for the balloons and flags.

  • Mane in pink, yellow and teal
  • Party hat in teal with a yellow band and a pink pompom
  • Cake in pink and lilac with yellow frosting
  • Candles in red, blue and green

The floor can be tan or a light wood color, so it stays calm under all those gifts. Give each gift a bright box and a ribbon in a color that stands out against it.

Tips for a party table

Put out one shared box of crayons per four kids, and tape the corners of each page to the table. It stops the paper from sliding, which small kids find hard to manage.

Start with the confetti if your child likes a quick win. Each piece takes a few seconds. For the balloons, leave the small shine mark white, since that is what makes them look round and shiny. The flames on the candles look best in yellow with a touch of orange at the bottom.

Coloring the wall behind the dots is a big job. If time is short, skip the wall and color only the dots and stars. The page will still look finished.

Unicorns have their own day

Did you know that unicorns get a special day each year? National Unicorn Day falls on April 9. The unicorn is also strongly tied to Scotland, and Scotland's official site says that unicorns first appeared on the royal coat of arms of Scotland around the 12th century. A unicorn even stands at the top of the Mercat Cross at St Giles' Cathedral in Edinburgh. So if your child has a spring birthday, April 9 may be worth a mention at the party. A creature with that much history deserves a good cake.

Party ideas that use this page

Turn it into a card. Fold a colored page in half with the picture facing out, and have each guest sign the back. You can also slice the page into six big pieces for a simple puzzle that kids put back together.

Play a quick spot game. Ask who can find the smallest gift, the tallest candle or the balloon with the longest string. For older kids, set a timer for five minutes and see who can invent the best birthday wish for the unicorn. Read them out before the real cake comes in.

Questions

Can I change the number of candles?

Yes. There are five on the page, but it is easy to draw one or two more with a pencil, and kids love matching their own age.

Is this good for a party activity?

It works very well. Print one per guest and set out crayons at a table. It keeps kids busy while everyone arrives, and each child gets something to take home.

How do we add a name?

The cake is the best spot. Write the name of the birthday child in pencil across the top tier, go over it with marker, and color around the letters.
