Free Printables for Kids and Families

What you will find here
Our word searches come in different levels. The Thanksgiving word search and the Christmas word search use big letters and simple directions, so they suit ages 6 to 10. The hard word search hides words in all directions, and it is a good test for teens and adults. Each puzzle page has a full answer key.
Our dot to dot pages build number skills. The easy dot to dot counts to 20 and makes a big star. The Christmas tree dot to dot counts to 23, and the fish dot to dot counts to 30. Planning ahead? Browse our free 2027 calendars, with 20 templates to print. Color by number pages are coming soon.
Free printables for kids by age
Children of three to five do best with dot to dot pages that have low numbers. A grown up can sit beside them, say each number aloud and point to the next dot. It is good counting practice, and the shape that appears at the end feels like a small reward.
Kids of six to ten are usually ready for easy word searches. Early readers should start with one that has large letters and no backward words. Holiday themes help, since the words are already familiar.
Older kids and teens can try the hard puzzle. It takes real focus, and it is a good way to rest your eyes from a phone.
Why printables are good for learning
A puzzle does not feel like homework, and that is the secret. Each one builds a skill while kids think they are playing.
- Word searches train spelling, scanning and focus.
- Dot to dot pages teach number order and pencil control.
- Coloring builds hand strength and patience.
- Timed games add a bit of fun math when kids track their best score.
Paper also gives kids a break from screens. A short puzzle before dinner or in the car can calm a busy mind.
How to print
Open any page and press Download PDF. The files fit US Letter paper, and they print well on A4 if you choose Fit to page. Plain printer paper is fine. For a reusable puzzle, slip the sheet into a clear plastic sleeve and use a dry erase marker, so kids can wipe it clean and try again.
To save ink on a big class set, use draft mode. The dark text and dots will still come out clear.
Ideas for teachers and parents
Teachers can keep a folder of these pages for early finishers, for substitute days and for the last few minutes before a break. Word searches are good for spelling lists, and dot to dot pages work at a math center.
At home, keep a few in the car, at the table or in a bag for restaurants and waiting rooms. They also fit well at parties. Put a stack on the kids' table with some pencils, and you will have a calm activity without any planning.
Please print as many copies as you need for home, class or library use. See our free use license for the simple rules.
A short history of puzzles
Word searches are fairly new. They first appeared in print in 1968, and teachers quickly saw how useful they were. Connect the dots pages are much older, and they have been popular in children's books and magazines for well over a hundred years. You can read more on Wikipedia.
Free printables for kids: holiday ideas
Puzzles are a big help when kids are home for the holidays. Print a Thanksgiving word search for the table, then switch to a Christmas puzzle in December. A small stack makes a sweet gift too. Staple a few sheets into a booklet, add a cover with your child's name and tuck it into a stocking with a new pencil.
Birthday parties can use them as well. Set a puzzle at each place as guests arrive, and give a small sticker to everyone who finishes. It keeps early arrivals busy, and there is no need to buy anything.
Road trips are another good time. Clip a few pages to a board, add a pencil on a string and hand it to the back seat. Long drives feel shorter, and nobody needs a screen. Pack a spare pencil, because the first one always rolls under a seat somewhere between home and the very first stop of the day.
